In depth

Verdict

A 16-runner class F handicap is not the most inspiring of betting mediums, and only a modest vote goes to Wainwright over the Mick Channon pair B A Highflyer and Polar Force. Wainwright has yet to score in nine attempts but has finished second four times, so is worth persisting with in the hope that he will come good eventually. The ex-Aidan O'Brien inmate has been sent off favourite on a couple of occasions, so connections obviously believe that he can produce the goods, and although the fitting of cheek pieces did not have the desired effect at Wolverhampton, he did plug on well as usual and remains one to keep on the right side of. B A Highflyer scored three times as a juvenile but has not added to that tally this term. However, his latest efforts suggest that he is now not badly handicapped and he makes slightly more appeal than stablemate Polar Force who to be fair has plunged down the weights since mixing it with hot company in the summer. A semblance of his old form would make him dangerous, but for the winner we return to Wainwright.
