Fife And Drum has been knocking at the door and can come good here, with topweight Mad Carew, Khuzdar and Dangerous Beans others to consider. Fife And Drum was bought in for 6,400gns after landing a Yarmouth seller for John Akehurst in July and since then has finished runner-up no less than three times, including at Goodwood in a claiming handicap won by Mad Carew. Receiving seven pounds on that occasion, Fife And Drum now renews rivalry on a further seven pounds better terms for three and a half lengths and can turn the tables on the topweight. Dangerous Beans showed signs of a return to form when touched off at Brighton, the drop back in trip obviously suiting him. Khuzdar likes these sort of tracks, and Mick Channon's Bath winner is another who can go well. All in all, this is a most competitive affair in which Fife And Drum gets the vote to small stakes.
