tracked leader, cruised up on bit 3f out, led inside final 2f, won at a canter
led at good pace, joined and reminder 3f out, driven over 2f out, headed inside final 2f soon eased when no chance
Disappointingly just the three runners have been declared for this maiden but every one of the trio has claims although David Simcock's KING OF REASON looks the most likely winner and is preferred to stable companion Tariq Too and Lay Claim. Sir Michael Stoute's colt has plenty of experience and has run some reasonable races in maidens and in a handicap two outings ago at Doncaster when chasing home Colonel Carter but he is becoming expensive to follow and looks booked for a place at best. In comparison, David Simcock's Tariq Too has only had two starts so far but stepped up from his debut outing at Lingfield when a fair third, beaten four lengths, in a Goodwood maiden last month and he has to be considered with the possibility of further improvement. Stable companion King Of Reason has the best form among the trio though having run a decent fifth in the Britannia last month and a reproduction of that effort may well suffice in this company.
King Of Reason 25-1 (8-1) Raced stands side, held up in rear, headway over 1f out, stayed on inside final furlong, nearest finish, 5th of 27, 3 1/2l behind Ransom Note (8-10) at Royal Ascot 1m 3yo hcp 0-105 (2) gf in Jun.
Lay Claim (USA) 3-1fav (9-3) In rear, switched to outside over 3f out, ridden and headway over 1f out, not pace to challenge, 5th of 11, 3 1/2l behind Imperial Delight (9-3) at Sandown 7f 3yo hcp 0-85 (4) gf in Jun.
Tariq Too 9-1 (9-3) Dwelt, soon held up in 6th, ridden and switched left to outside well over 2f out, headway to 3rd 1f out, kept on inside final furlong, 3rd of 11, 4l behind Hear The Roar (9-3) at Goodwood 1m 3yo mdn (5) gd in Jun.
