Verdict

Fong's Alibi got up close home when landing a Nottingham claimer last month and Stan Moore's gelding has every chance of following up here but BUDDHIST MONK has plenty in hand on official ratings and is preferred with Carte d'Oro looking the pick of the rest. The selection has finished last in each of his last two starts in decent handicaps at Salisbury and York but his form in the spring was much better and the Ian Williams-trained gelding has an obvious chance dropped into a claimer where he meets his rivals on better terms than if this was a handicap. Kyle of Bute looks to be one of the lesser lights in the John Dunlop stable and, having only been placed once in 13 starts, he is readily discounted despite the good form of the stable, especially with Eddie Ahern riding the selection rather than Dunlop's horse. Ralph Beckett's Carte d'Oro is relatively lightly raced but needs to improve, even dropped to this grade, to trouble Buddhist Monk.
