It is significant that connections have opted to attempt to land a maiden with Tartan Gigha after three maiden outings already and with a mark of 80 he sets a fair standard. He gets the nomination after a promising effort at Great Leighs last time in what looked as a good a maiden as has been run at that venue to-date, that contest being won by the promising Stone Of Scone. The 8f trip might just have been stretching Tartan Gigha's stamina and the drop back to 7f is likely to suit. Hippolytus presumably surprised all involved with him when running the short priced favourite Storeyland very close at Redcar on his racecourse debut, the front two drawing the long way clear. That form was franked when Storeyland made a winning handicap debut two weeks ago off a mark of 70 and appears well handicapped. Nominal progression from that experience would see him emerge a big danger to Tartan Gigha. Salerosa was noted doing its best work in the closing stages in a Ripon maiden last month on ground that did not suit many. He cannot be left from calculations although the third from that Ripon maiden has been well beaten since.
