Verdict

With the draw likely to play a part here, Von Wessex gets the vote over Roko, with Procrastinate and Concert Time others to consider. By the time racing gets under way at the Yorkshire track, conditions may well have firmed up a bit from the overnight report of good to soft, and that should enhance the claims of Von Wessex, a winner on fast ground at Yarmouth in April. Bill Turner's gelding more recently made all here in similar company, his tendency to hang right offset by the fact that he could race up the far rail. That victory was gained on ground made good by a flash-flood so whatever the underfoot conditions, he has leading claims. Roko is one of four Mick Easterby entries, and on his latest effort here when fourth in a class E maiden, looks the pick of the quartet and any market support would be significant. Procrastinate was a beaten favourite last time and is becoming frustrating to follow, while Concert Time was third in a seller here in May, and that looks to be her level judged on subsequent efforts. In a weak start to proceedings, Von Wessex is taken to add to his course and distance success.
