If Ubi Ace was from a more fashionable stable he would be a strong fancy of many for this, division one of the auction maiden but Tim Walford's gelded juvenile showed enough first time out over one mile in bottomless conditions at Haydock, to suggest a race of this nature should be within his grasp. Third in that particular maiden, the second ran a big race to finish runner-up in what didn't look at bad maiden at Doncaster last week while the fifth Viking Awake was well supported to win at Chester on Saturday but raced too keenly. All in all, indications are it was not a bad effort and given conditions and the stiff finish here, Ubi Ace looks the most solid selection. Sgt Roberts stayed on to finish a never nearer fourth on debut at Lingfield but it is worth noting that his trainer Stan Moore boasts a 20% record with his small but select team which he sends north to this venue over the past five years. Hel's Angel has shown enough to suggest she should be there or thereabouts. Fajita is Mick Quinlan's sole runner at the meeting and has indicated some promise in two starts but UBI ACE is selected to land the opener.
