Verdict
A solid case can be made for Just Sam, who gets plenty of weight from Royal Applause, who sets the standard on the BHA ratings. Admiralcollingwood also has claims in a race of this nature and is also respected. The last named showed improved form at Ripon eight days ago and it may be simply that he needs a good test of his stamina. This stiff finish will certainly provide that, and a big run could be in the offering from Tom Tate's charge. Royal Applord has found life very tough in handicaps and this drop into a claimer appears to be a logical move for the Kevin Ryan-trained gelding. And, even though he has to concede lumps of weight all around; the son of Royal Applause cannot be confidently ruled out in a race where the majority of runners have shown little of any consequence lately. However, Just Sam can make a good fist of things when he puts his mind to the task in hand and, as his record of six placed efforts from thirteen starts suggests, he looks the most consistent option here. Allied to that profile, a high draw is also a big plus for Just Sam and he has plenty in his favour today.
