In depth

Verdict

A typically-trappy Beverley sprint in which most have some sort of chance. Six are previous course and distance winners including veteran Ornate, who has not raced in a grade this low since making his racecourse debut in 2015. Van Gerwen, only beaten a length last time at Pontefract, is one of three Paul Midgley runners but Nibras Again and Latin Five, who edged out High Security here last month, look better handicapped. SUGAR BABY was going away at the finish when beating the subsequent winner Foreseeable Future at Thirsk two runs ago and he stayed on strongly again to follow up at Musselburgh. He’s bagged the inside berth in this and looks the one to beat as Refuge has been doing his winning at a lower level and Roydmoor needs to recapture his early-season form to get involved.
