Verdict

Monarch was left clear when his nearest rival fell at the last at Down Royal but probably would have won anyway which is why he's been hit with an 8lb rise. Niven could only finish third, beaten 8l, and looks held despite the revised weights. DIXIE LEE showed her liking for good ground with a fine run at Leopardstown and had similar conditions when scoring with something in hand at Down Royal. The assessor has taken a chance raising her just 3lb and she can go in again. Veinard and Icario represent Gordon Elliott with preference for the latter, though his only victory over timber came on heavy going. The Plan Man's career strike-rate of 2-38 is a poor return for a decent performer whose last victory was in 2014.
