John Dunlop's Goodwood Spirit showed plenty of promise on his debut at Kempton last month and has to be respected but faces no easy task on his second start today against Darko Karim, who gets the vote over Cummiskey. The last mentioned is trained by Jamie Osborne, who also has newcomers Slite and Task's Muppet in the field, for Michael Tabor and was made favourite for his Windsor debut in April. The son of Orpen failed to live up to expectations that day and may do better now. Nick Littmoden has done well with his juveniles this term so Watchmyeyes has to be respected first time up, while Mick Channon's Gold Majesty may be better than she has shown so far. The vote though goes to Darko Karim. David Loder's colt ran promisingly on his first start at Newmarket when a length fourth behind Destinate and was subsequently outclassed in the Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot. This represents a big drop in class for the son of Groom Dancer and, with the stable in better form now, Darko Karim gets the nod.
