Vancouver Gold has fitness on her side and can make that fact count over Polar Dawn, with Alsharq and Oceancookie two others that can get involved without being good enough on this occasion. This Class 5 contest will not take a great deal of winning, and Vancouver Gold has already proven herself this year by opening her account on her reappearance at Southwell in March. That was her first run since she suffered a cracked knee at Newcastle last September, so connections were obviously pleased. Karl Burke's filly showed that to be no fluke when just coming off third best in a tight photo at Thirsk last week, and as she now takes on her own sex, she has leading claims despite topweight. Polar Dawn was hampered at the start in the race won by Cape Columbine at Newmarket last term, and in the light of that one's cracking second in the Nell Gwyn, Rod Millman's filly must be taken seriously. She may well be in need of the outing though, as will Oceancookie who is stepped up in trip for her return, and a bigger danger may well be the well-bred Alsharq who now qualifies for a handicap mark after three quiet runs. Vancouver Gold sets the standard and should be up to the task in hand.
