Verdict

Some horses in good form here and from a shortlist of Constant Cheers, Mick's Dancer and SOUTER POINT, it is the last-named who is taken to lead them home. Roger Charlton's son of Giant's Causeway was a Lingfield maiden winner last time out following a succession of near misses. His earlier form with Doggerbank has been franked, his young jockey takes off a valuable 7lbs, and this opening handicap mark of 78 doesn't look prohibitive. Dove Cottage is edging down the weights but not as quickly as his performances merit, Magroom has stamina to prove, whilst La Coveta looks high enough in the weights now following a Leicester win in July. My Gacho is a course winner who steps up in trip and he is consistent but this looks tougher, so a bigger threat may be Constant Cheers who was a cosy Epsom winner last time out and a 3lb rise in the weights doesn't look too harsh. Mick's Dancer took a couple of easier races back in July but his recent run at Newmarket hinted at the fact that this new mark of 76 is high enough. The market could be helpful here, however it is Souter Point who is selected.
