A sixth furlong can help Doctor Hilary reverse recent form with Speed Dial Harry and, in turn, hold Nova Tor, who present stiff challenges at the weights today. However, preference is for The Crooked Ring, who has a live chance on these terms. So too does Bold Marc, who returns to a more realistic level after finishing down the field in the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot, where he was not beaten far despite coming home eleventh of fifteen. However, like a few of the rest, his latest start did not conclusively suggest that a step up in distance would be the key to him at this stage - even though there is plenty of stamina in his pedigree. It will be dispiriting if he cannot make an impact beyond the minimum trip though and he is one to monitor whatever happens today. The Crooked Ring is the one for us though as he has form that ties him in well with a few of these. He has escaped the attentions of the handicapper to a degree and, in receipt of 13lb from Doctor Hilary, who was a length and three quarters adrift when they met at Nottingham, The Crooked Ring has cracking chance of confirming his superiority today.
