Verdict

Kevin Ryan has four entered in this and David O’Meara and Michael Dods three each. Of the O’Meara trio, Danny Tudhope partners the tough Summerghand but he was only eighth last year behind the likes of Mr Wagyu, Motagally and the dual Stewards’ Cup winner Commanche Falls. The recent Goodwood winner Fivethousandtoone and Popmaster were also unplaced as three-year-olds in this 12 months ago but Khanjar is one of several from the younger generation attempting to better their efforts this time. He beat Abolish, who runs in the Silver Cup earlier, at Haydock at the start of the month and also won earlier at Ripon but is penalised. Funfare Wane won this hugely-competitive sprint twice in the Noughties but back-to-back winners are rare. However, BIELSA is just a pound higher than when ploughing a lone furrow up the stands rail to take this last year and he’s been trained with the race in mind again, having had just the one run in a handicap this year. Stablemate Bergerac couldn’t be in better form and Vadream is also respected having returned to form in a Listed race at Newmarket three weeks ago.
