Algol is taken to complete a hat-trick at the expense of Utmost Respect, Aahayson, and Dowlleh, with Josephe Locke also to be respected. Algol was still learning his trade when tried over five furlongs for his first two outings, but as soon as Howard Johnson stepped him up to six furlongs at Newcastle, the son of Kylacchy responded by running the useful Champery to two lengths. It then came as no surprise when he went one better at Catterick, nor when he followed up at Ripon next time, and it appears as though an 8lb rise is unlikely to stop his bid for the treble. Utmost Respect was very impressive on his Haydock debut but the going was very heavy which could be misleading. Nevertheless he has tons of scope and can prove to be a danger to the selection. Aahayson has not beaten much yet, but has ability, and Joseph Locke looks well treated off a 7lb lower mark than when sixth in a Newmarket contest that has worked out well. Algol has the class to go on to better things though and is the one to beat.
