      Verdict

      Little separates the top five in the weights, all of whom tend to win in their turn in ordinary northern handicap company. Powerful Presence keeps threatening a victory for the O'Meara team and it's noteworthy to see connections now reach for a first-time visor at the age of seven for the Refuse To Bend gelding. It may well do the trick. Silver Rime arrives on the back of a course and distance success for an in-form Linda Perratt but a 6lb penalty could prove a bridge too far on this follow-up attempt. Gatepost ran well last time but only has a single success to his name since May 2011 and it may pay to go with KING OF MACEDON. Mark Johnston has no equal pitching 3-y-o's in against older horses as the season progresses and his gelding receives plenty of weight from all bar one of his rivals. Hopefully, Joe Fanning will be able to dictate matters with a soft lead and make the most of that significant weight differential.
