Vengeur De Guye hasn’t really fired this season but was second over course and distance just over a year ago when ARDERA CROSS (NAP) was five lengths away in third. William Young’s 10-year-old is now 8lb better off, however, despite having won twice recently around here. Pistol Park has gone up 2lb for finishing second at Carlisle but makes more appeal than Sword Of Fate, who is an infrequent winner, and Discko Des Plages, who has been beaten three times off a higher mark since winning over 2m3f at Catterick. Las Tunas appears to have lost the plot since winning at Carlisle in the autumn.
Vengeur De Guye (FR) 5-1 (11-7) Tracked leaders on the inner, every chance when travelling easy and disputed the lead 2 out, pushed along approaching the last, soon ridden and weakened run-in, 5th of 9, 16 1/4l behind Saint Arvans (11-7) at Kelso 2m hcp (4) sft in Dec.
Pistol Park (FR) 10-1 (11-10) Mid-division on outside, headway 4th, led before 2 out, headed last, switched right flat, held but stayed on, 2nd of 10, 2 1/4l behind Miss Amelia (10-11) at Carlisle 2m hcp (4) hvy in Feb.
Ardera Cross (IRE) 6-1 (10-2) Prominent, ridden and lost place after 5 out, in rear but in touch before 4 out, left in 2nd 4 out, headway to chase leader before last, stayed on strongly to lead flat, won at Ayr 2m hcp (3) sft in Mar beating Dali Mail (11-7) by 1 3/4l, 6 ran.
Las Tunas (FR) 11-1 (11-7) Mid-division, closed 3rd, went 2nd 5th, led next, headed before 3 out, soon weakened, 9th of 10, 27 1/2l behind Relkadam (11-3) at Wetherby 1m 7f hcp (4) sft in Feb.
Sword Of Fate (IRE) 6-1 (10-11) Chased leaders, ridden from 3 out, held last, weakened final 150 yards, 6th of 11, 8 1/2l behind Jorgie (11-0) at Musselburgh 2m hcp (4) gd in Mar.
Discko Des Plages (FR) 5-2jfav (11-0) Not always fluent, chased leaders, raced keenly, left in lead 5th, headed before 2 out, lost 2nd flat, no extra, 3rd of 5, 6l behind Ain't My Fault (11-11) at Newcastle 2m hcp (4) sft in Feb.
