In depth

Verdict

Not much public form to go on and, as ever in this type of event, the market will provide further clues but Enhancer and Hawick look the two to concentrate on. The former boasts solid credentials having won both bumper starts to date and has proved capable of handling testing conditions. However, Alan Swinbank's charge has been absent for almost six months and may struggle to concede 10lb to Hawick, who ran a race full of promise on his debut here last month. The son of Toulon had been nibbled in the market and looked likely to prevail when cruising to the front with two furlongs to race only to be narrowly denied by a previous winner. With the experience behind him, Hawick looks sure to take plenty of beating unless one of the newcomers is above average.
