Verdict

Hurricane Run can stamp his class on this small field, with Electrocutionist and Heart's Cry his only serious rivals. Just six line up for this year's King George, making it the smallest field since 1970, and it is only the third time in the race's history that there is no member of the Classic generation taking part. So, the path looks clear for Hurricane Run to put a rare defeat behind him in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud, and to add to his great Arc win. Andre Fabre's colt is a class act and can emulate compatriot and sire Montjeur who also captured both the Arc and King George. With Kieren Fallon out of the limelight, Christophe Soumillon rides the colt for the first time since the pair were beaten by Shamardal in the French Derby, but judged on recent work it will be a different story today. Godolphin have not had a good season at all by their standards, and so desperately need Electrocutionist to come good here to rescue them, and he will certainly make a bold bid. The Dubai World Cup winner has been sparkling in his work and did a nice piece under Frankie Dettori on Tuesday, so connections are quietly confident that he can add to the likes of Swain, Daylami and Doyen who have all carried the famous blue silks to success in this event. Heart's Cry is out to make history for Japan, and as he is the only horse to ever beat their superstar Deep Impact, his challenge has to be taken seriously. He made all to beat Collier Hill in Dubai in March, and on that bare form will need to improve, but on a line through Warrsan, whom he beat eight lengths in the Japan Cup, he would theoretically have much the same chance as Hurricane Run, who had Clive Brittain's charge the same distance behind in the Arc. Of the rest, Hardwicke Stakes winner Maraahel has to improve to emulate the owner's Naswan, victorious in 1989, while Enforcer is really pitched in at the deep end. Cherry Mix is in as pacemaker for Electrocutionist, but that will suit Hurricane Run who will not have to make his own running as he did when landing the Tattersalls Gold Cup at The Curragh, and he can swoop in the straight to score a famous victory.
