Verdict

HOMERIC found the 2m4f of the Ascot Stakes beyond him last time but scored over track and trip before that with a subsequent winner back in third. He may just edge this on that form and is preferred to Mysterious Man and Mawaqeet, who were also beaten in last month's Ascot Stakes. The latter has since gone very close at York and looks a bigger threat than Highland Castle, who has yet to prove he stays as far as this. Today's distance is no problem for either Broxbourne or Desert Recluse but whether they are quite good enough in this company is another matter.
