Roxan can justify her tall reputation by beating the more experienced Gilded, with Simply Perfect, Sunley Gift, Nina Blini and Princess Iris all worth their place in the line-up. Kevin Ryan showed last season that he has few peers in the two-year-old department, and nothing has changed this term, with his juveniles once again in terrific form. The reputation of Roxan preceded her to the track when she made her debut in the Hilary Needler Trophy at Beverley last month, and she did not disappoint, showing a smart turn of foot to overcome a slow start, and despite looking a shade green still, favourite backers had few worries. This 160,000gns purchase can go some way to repaying that cost by landing this prestigious prize. Gilded has been well placed to land her last four starts and is therefor battle-hardened. Richard Hannon's filly is expected to be on the premises and should make the frame, while Simply Perfect was sent off as favourite at Windsor but had her colours lowered by Dutch Art. She will come into her own over further, and has an entry in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at The Curragh in August. Mick Channon will be hoping that his Newbury debut winner Sunley Gift will prove half as good as last year's Queen Mary heroine Flashy Wings, who captured the same Newbury race en-route. She should at least hold subsequent Sandown winner Christmas Tart on form, but faces a tall order nonetheless. Nina Blini overcame a tardy start to score at Warwick and has to improve, and all-the-way Nottingham winner Princess Iris is surely up against it here. All in all, this is best left to Roxan who can take the prize back up north.
