Predicting the impact of the draw at this stage is a thankless task but Jimmy Fortune should have options on BALDUCCI from the centre and we'll side with him; the list of dangers is a long one with cases to be made for Dherghaam, Hypnotized, Ransom Note, Al Farahidi and Business As Usual to name but five. Andrew Balding's charge hasn't yet been out of the frame in five career starts and impressed many with the way he overcame trouble to win the Silver Bowl at Haydock last time. He was no match for Al Farahidi when the pair met in a Lingfield maiden but is surely the horse to have improved the most; he made the most of the pound he received last time when reeling the Johnston runner in. With the pair pulling six lengths clear it was no surprise that Al Farahidi was sent off a very well backed favourite at Epsom last time but he was keen and blew out completely so the percentage call is to stick with our selection despite the 4lb turnaround in the weights. Ed Dunlop landed this race a year ago with Fareer and in Dherghaam he saddles another live chance. Since disappointing in a Polytrack maiden on his return this son of Exceed And Excel has done nothing but improve, winning an ordinary maiden before romping home in a seven furlong handicap at York. He needs to find more now asked to race of a 16lb higher mark but along with our pick remains capable of doing so, especially now racing over a mile for the first time. Michael Bell took this in 2007 and may do so again with Hypnotized who has the perfect partner in Jamie Spencer; there's a prize in him off this mark but he'll need some luck-in-running to navigate the likely chosen route of last to first. Ransom Note is a pound better off with Business As Usual after the latter beat him at Newmarket; Barry Hills has always rated his horse and he can reverse the form, particularly as son Charlie has suggested Ransom Note wasn't at his best that day. Navajo Chief was well ridden by Fallon last time but will find this tougher even if his high draw turns out to be a benefit; similar comments apply to Sea Lord who had his own way last time and the form has been let down by the third horse. Little separates Secretive and King Of Reason on these terms but the draw may work out in favour of David Simcock's runner and he's to be respected although he showed a lack of professionalism in hanging last time and won't get away with that here. This is a cracking renewal of the Britannia Stakes in which Balducci is just preferred.
