    Verdict

Much depends on how Nicconi adapts to racing in a visor for the first time, as he could be something very special and become the latest in a line of global raiders to put British sprinters in the shade; KINGSGATE NATIVE, however, is a proven force and gets the vote from Borderlescott and Equiano as the best of the home-trained contingent. That said Markab is also worth an interest for a place. Henry Candy's gelding looks more like the finished article this season and, as smooth successes at Thirsk and The Curragh have earned him a step up in class, the mount of Pat Cosgrave also appeals as an each-way option at the likely odds. Borderlescott has been a great earner for his connections and his consistency is admirable. Robin Bastiman's gelding finished just out of the money in this race last season but he is very capable of improving on his position if he gets a bit of luck in running. Equiano, who won this in 2008, has been a revelation this term and, as he has such a high cruising speed, he can help to set a scorching tempo if he runs his usual race. Nicconi - a Group 1 winner in Australia - has been the subject of glowing reports and will be dangerous to leave out of the equation. The mount of Frankie Dettori brings an unknown element to the form assessment. But as five of the last seven winners have been trained overseas; it's very feasible Dettori could be onto another winner at his favourite UK racecourse. However, Kingsgate Native brings strong form to the table and, given that he is guaranteed the strong pace he needs, everything appears to be in place for a big run from Sir Michael Stoute's gelding.
