Supasundae couldn’t quite cope with the finishing burst of Penhill in the World Hurdle but that was another terrific run from Jessica Harrington’s tough and adaptable hurdler, who is effective between 2m and 3m and was also runner-up in the Liverpool Hurdle here last year. He beat Faugheen in the Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown in February and is the highest rated of these, though not by much. The New One didn’t stay the 3m at Cheltenham and won this back in 2014. He was third last year but five lengths behind runner-up MY TENT OR YOURS, who has been winding back the clock over the last 12 months. Despite Buveur D’Air’s absence, JP McManus and Nicky Henderson have a ready-made replacement in the 11-year-old, who also beat The New One in the International Hurdle at Cheltenham in December and goes well fresh. Stablemate L'Ami Serge is likely to be picking off rivals in the closing stages but it would need a career-best from one of the others to take a hand in the finish.
