Verdict

There are seven runners bidding to give Gordon Elliott a fourth win in this. Delta Work is disputing favouritism having beaten the two-times winner Tiger Roll in last month’s Glenfarclas Chase at Cheltenham. A five-times Grade 1 winner, he deserves the utmost respect but has a big weight to carry along with last year’s winner Minella Times and Any Second Now, who was third last year despite being badly hampered on the first circuit. Burrows Saint was fourth last year with Blaklion sixth. Only 3lb higher than when runner-up in last year’s Scottish Grand National behind Mighty Thunder and lightly-raced this term, Dingo Dollar could run a big race for Sandy Thomson and Ryan Mania and Snow Leopardess has been a revelation this season. She won the Becher Chase over these fences in December and still looks well handicapped. Another mare, Mount Ida, boasts decent form but she ran a shocker at Cheltenham last month. Freewheelin Dylan beat Run Wild Fred and Enjoy D'Allen in last year’s Irish Grand National but hasn’t been in the same form this season. Two For Gold is well treated on his second in the Ascot Chase in February but was pulled up on the only previous occasion he was tried beyond 3m while Phoenix Way fell last time at Kempton but beat a useful chaser at Ascot the time before. Fiddlerontheroof has a touch of class and was second in the Ladbrokes Trophy in the autumn, which is normally a good trial for this. He was beaten by Fortescue at Ascot in February but lost a shoe and should stay this trip if he gets a clear run. ECLAIR SURF has made giant strides and connections will be relieved that he’s just crept into the race. A prominent racer, Emma Lavelle’s eight-year-old made all in the Grade 3 Classic at Warwick in January and was trying to give 11lb to last week’s easy Scottish Grand National winner Win My Wings in the Eider at Newcastle the following month. On that form, he is the best handicapped horse in this.
