Brown secures Port Vale safety
Saturday 25 April 2015 18:28, UK
A late Michael Brown goal for Port Vale secured a 2-1 win over Yeovil to avoid a nervous final fixture.
The result meant Rob Page's men secured League One football for another season, while it was Paul Sturrock's first taste of defeat as Yeovil manager after an impressive start to life at the relegated club. Tom Pope thought he had given Vale the lead after just 10 minutes, but his header was chalked off as he was adjudged to have clambered all over Liam Shepherd. However, Pope bagged his 10th goal of the season just three minutes later, when he was set up by Ben Williamson to fire home. The Glovers had scored just 34 goals all season, and failed to muster a shot on target until the final 10 minutes. James Berrett's free-kick in the 80th minute found its way to Gozie Uwu, who spun on a sixpence and zipped an equaliser in at the near post. It was short-lived, and Yeovil's miserable season continued when Michael O'Connor's free-kick was bundled in by Brown after Chis Weale's parry to deservedly take all three points.
