Nervous Leeds address slide

Two goals from the unlikely source of Richard Naylor helped Leeds to a nervy 2-1 win over Yeovil.

Grayson's men forced to survive anxious last 25 minutes

Two goals from the unlikely source of captain Richard Naylor helped Leeds United address their slide down the League One table with what was eventually a nervy 2-1 victory over Yeovil. The Whites arrived at Huish Park having slipped to fourth in the division following successive defeats to Southampton, Millwall, Norwich and Swindon. Simon Grayson's side were visibly anxious at the start, but Naylor scored two headers from set-pieces in the space of five first-half minutes to put his side on cruise control. Leeds continued to dominate after half-time and could have scored at least two more goals as Naylor's aerial ability proved a menace when his side were comfortable. But Dean Bowditch struck an excellent effort in the 66th minute to cause panic in the visiting defence and Leeds were forced to hang on for the three points, which reignited hopes of automatic promotion and kept Yeovil in relegation danger.

Dominate

A minute's silence in memory of murdered Leeds fans Christopher Loftus and Kevin Speight, who were killed before a match against Galatasaray in Turkey in 2000, marked the kick-off. After an even start, Leeds began to dominate and their hero was Naylor, who moved up from the back to head them in front in the 28th minute - the West Yorkshire club's first goal for almost seven hours. The central defender also got his head on the end of a Neil Kilkenny corner to head a brilliant second goal five minutes later. It looked all over for Yeovil, especially as Leeds dominated the second half, with Naylor almost completing a hat-trick when a header in the 57th minute was cleared off the goalline by Scott Davies. But Yeovil refused to lie down and in the 66th minute Bowditch picked up a pass from Gavin Williams to slide the ball past visiting goalkeeper Shane Higgs and in off the far post. The home side dominated the closing stages, but could not find an equaliser to ensure they remained only five points clear of the relegation zone ahead of Monday's 3pm kick-offs.
