Wigan 2-0 Walsall: Will Grigg double downs Saddlers
Saturday 30 September 2017 19:53, UK
A goal in either half from Will Grigg gave Wigan Athletic a comfortable 2-0 Sky Bet League One victory over Walsall.
The Latics were always on top of a rather scrappy encounter at the DW Stadium, and deserved the three points that cements their second spot in the table.
Grigg opened the scoring on the half-hour mark with a deadly finish after Nick Powell and Walsall goalkeeper Mark Gillespie had collided while going for Callum Elder's cross.
And Powell was also involved in the second goal that secured the points just eight minutes after the restart.
His sublime through ball released Grigg into open space, and the Northern Ireland international was in the act of pulling the trigger before being cleaned out by James Wilson.

Grigg picked himself up and smashed home the spot-kick past Liam Roberts, who had replaced Gillespie at half-time.
Wigan could and should have added further goals in the last half-hour, with Powell seeing an effort hacked off the line.
Walsall almost pulled one back at the death, only for Jamie Jones to produce a fine save to deny Amadou Bakayoko.
