But that was about it for the first period, save for Callum McManaman's left-footed strike for Wigan which caught the head of a defender on its way behind for a corner.
Stevenage again started the second half in positive fashion, with a free-kick from Harvey White flying past the far post after nicking the Wigan wall on the way.

Dan Kemp then forced a comfortable save from Tickle as Wigan made five substitutions in the space of 25 minutes to try to gain control of proceedings.
One of the new boys, Michael Olakigbe - making his first appearance after breaking a leg in pre-season - weaved his way through the Stevenage defence and pulled the ball back for Baba Adeeko, whose volley was tipped over the top.
Olakigbe then saw a shot tipped round the post by Murphy Cooper but both sides had to settle for a point.
