Fowler and Hasselbaink on target for Bluebirds

Cardiff City scored four goals inside the first 30 minutes en route to 4-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion in the Carling Cup third round. The Bluebirds' veteran strike pairing of Robbie Fowler and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink were both on target, with the former Liverpool man scoring twice including a penalty. Trevor Sinclair also found the back of the net to put the tie out of West Brom's reach, despite Ishmael Miller's double.

Fowler fires

Cardiff were quick out of the blocks and Fowler netted his third goal in two games for the South Wales club after only four minutes. Stephen McPhail broke free down the left wing and whipped in an inviting cross for Fowler who swept the ball into the top corner from 12 yards out. Hasselbaink then got into the act midway through the first-half as he turned and fired a powerful effort into the top corner from distance. Fowler added a third from the penalty spot just four minutes later after defender Shelton Martis brought down Joe Ledley in the area.
Disaster
Matters went from bad to worse for The Baggies as Sinclair popped up to fire home from close range on the half hour mark. Miller gave the hosts some hope at the break with a well-taken effort moments later after Craig Beattie's shot rebounded off a post. Miller deservedly grabbed his and West Brom's second of the night from the penalty spot late on after he was brought down by Chris Gunter, but it was too little too late.
