10-man Iron slip to late Bescot defeat
Ten-man Scunthorpe hung on until the last minute of normal time before Walsall pinched a 2-1 home win.
Former Leyton Orient striker Jabo Ibehre exchanged passes cleverly with substitute Ishmel Demontagnac in the 89th minute before firing in a neat cross-shot for his second League goal.
Scunthorpe, who had taken the lead after only two minutes through Marco Reich, never really recovered from losing new centre-back David Mirfin, their £150,000 midweek signing from Huddersfield.
He was sent off in the 10th minute of his debut for bringing down Ibehre from behind, leaving Reich to equalise for the Saddlers with a superb free-kick.
Scunthorpe had made a great start to the game, taking the lead in the second minute when Kevan Hurst broke quickly down the left before sending over an in-swinger which Garry Thompson, at the far post, headed home.
It was looking grim for Walsall, but Mirfin's red card gave them a boost and they were able to dominate the game afterwards, missing chances through Alex Nicholls, twice, and Sofiene Zaaboub.
