We look back at the Merseyside derby from March 2006 where Liverpool survived the early dismissal of Steven Gerrard to beat Everton 3-1 at Anfield. Gerrard was handed two quickfire yellows, one for kicking the ball away and another for a challenge on Kevin Kilbane, but Mohamed Sissoko and Xabi Alonso rallied in midfield in Gerrard's absence. Liverpool took a two-goal lead through Phil Neville's own goal and Luis Garcia's strike either side of half-time, before Tim Cahill pulled one back for the Toffees with half an hour remaining. Harry Kewell hit Liverpool's third to regain their two-goal cushion late on, and that's how it stayed as Rafa Benitez's side went on to finish third. Everton finished 11th under David Moyes, a year after earning a fourth-place finish. Liverpool host Everton at Anfield on Wednesday night, looking to force a late charge on the Champions League places with just a month of the season to go. Watch it live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 7.30pm.
