Toby Alderweireld could make his return for Tottenham in their Premier League home match with Swansea on Saturday.

The defender has not played since suffering a knee injury on October 15, and Spurs have won only one of nine matches in his absence.

Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino says Alderweireld has been training with the first team this week but will be assessed ahead of the weekend clash.

The potential return of Alderweireld could be a much-needed boost for Spurs, who suffered their first Premier League defeat of the season at Chelsea last week, days after being knocked out of the Champions League.

Swansea have not beaten Spurs since promotion to the top flight in 2011, but they did end their winless run with a dramatic 5-4 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend.

The win was Swansea's first in the league since the opening day of the season, and manager Bob Bradley is braced for a "critical period between now and the beginning of the new year".

"There are a lot of important matches," he said. "It's a busy schedule through the holidays, and it's an opportunity for us to turn things around."

Harry Kane has signed a new contract at Tottenham that will keep him at the club until 2022.

Swansea are likely to be without midfielder Ki Sung-yueng after he suffered a broken toe before the win over Palace.

    Opta stats

Tottenham have not lost against Swansea in any competition since September 1991 - a 1-0 defeat in the League Cup (W9 D2 since).

Despite never beating Spurs in the league following their promotion in 2011, the Swans have scored at least once in eight of their 10 meetings.

Swansea are the only Premier League team that Spurs have faced at least 10 times, without being on the end of a defeat (W8 D2).

Watch highlights of Swansea's thrilling win over Crystal Palace

The Swans are yet to keep a clean sheet against Spurs in the Premier League (10 games); only against Manchester United have they played more games without one (11).

Former Spurs midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has scored in two of his three Premier League games at White Hart Lane for Swansea.

Thirty-one per cent of Swansea's Premier League goals this season were netted last time out against Crystal Palace as they ran out 5-4 winners.

    Paul Merson's prediction

Swansea last weekend, blimey! Every time there was a corner or free-kick the referee should have just given a goal. It was a shambles of a match. It was entertaining but to think that Swansea have turned a corner would be madness.

I've got to go with Tottenham here. For 44 minutes against Chelsea they were phenomenal. However, they've only won one of their last 10 games - that's a bit of a worry. That said, this looks a very winnable match.

PAUL PREDICTS: 3-0 (9/1 with Sky Bet - Most popular Super 6 selection: 30 per cent predict 2-0)

    Betting

Tottenham are the shortest-priced favourites of the weekend at 1/3 with Sky Bet as Swansea go up against odds of 15/2 for back-to-back wins. Bradley's men drifted to 6/5 to face relegation following their sensational win over Crystal Palace, while Spurs were pushed out from 18/1 to 25/1 to win the Premier League following their defeat to Chelsea.

Kane is just 4/7 to celebrate his new contract by finding the net as the 11/4 favourite in the first goalscorer betting, while Gylfi Sigurdsson and Fernando Llorente are tied on the Swans' side of the betting at 10/1 apiece.
