Admir Mehmedi's extra-time strike sent Switzerland into the final of the European Under-21 Championship.
Late extra-time effort books place against Spain in showpiece
Admir Mehmedi's superb extra-time strike sent Switzerland into the final of the European Under-21 Championship in Denmark.
A nervous semi-final against the Czech Republic in Herning was goalless after 90 minutes but the Swiss clinched a 1-0 victory with six minutes of extra time left.
Mehmedi produced a fine 25-yard strike to book a place in Saturday's showpiece in Aarhus against favourites Spain, who earlier came from behind to claim a 3-1 extra-time win over Belarus in the other semi.
That was just reward for the Swiss as they had been more adventurous against a defensively-minded Czech side, and the final will be the one most observers wanted.
Switzerland had started strongly with Xherdan Shaqiri, one of the best players of the tournament, firing narrowly wide after some neat footwork.
Few chances
The Czechs eventually got a foothold in a first half of few chances and captain Borek Dockal replied with a 30-yard drive flashing just wide.
Libor Kozak went close shortly after the break before the Czechs reverted to some staunch defending.
The Swiss were struggling to break them down until Shaqiri almost grabbed a spectacular late winner, smashing a fierce effort against a post with Tomas Vaclik well beaten in the Czech goal.
The Swiss remained on top in extra time and with chances at a premium, Mehmedi dropped back to pick the ball up 40 yards out before the FC Zurich striker charged forward and unleashed a right-footed effort which fizzed into the bottom-left corner.
