Stoke 2-1 Bournemouth: Mame Biram Diouf nets winner for hosts as Callum Wilson suffers injury

Stoke City registered their first league win of the season with a 2-1 win over Bournemouth, who lost Callum Wilson to a serious-looking knee injury.

It appeared Jon Walters' first-half goal would be enough to seal the win but though Dan Gosling equalised on 76 minutes substitute Mame Biram Diouf headed home the winner six minutes from time.

It capped a miserable day for Bournemouth as Wilson, who has scored five Premier League goals this season, was taken off early in the first-half on a stretcher and needed oxygen after twisting his knee.

Stoke went into the contest having made their worst start to a Premier League season, taking just three points from six games.

It was a timid start from both teams and the game had to be stopped for nearly 10 minutes as Wilson needed medical treatment.

The striker went to ground hurt in the eighth minute having appeared to twist his knee while under the attentions of Philipp Wollscheid.

He received treatment on the field before managing to walk off it - and shortly after, came back on. But Wilson was almost immediately back down, his leg having buckled as he ran towards the ball.

He subsequently departed on a stretcher, replaced by Glenn Murray, to leave his team-mates looking a little shell-shocked, and Stoke grabbed the lead on 32 minutes.

Marko Arnautovic produced the magic down the left flank and did well to get around Simon Francis, pulling the ball back for Walters, who tapped in from close-range.

Matt Ritchie should have levelled the game on 44 minutes but Erik Pieters did a fine job of blocking his close-range shot.

Stoke became very nervous as the second-half wore on and the visitors levelled with 14 minutes to play. 

Marc Pugh struck an effort from outside the box and the ball ricocheted to Gosling, who shot low past Jack Butland. 

Stoke looked in trouble as Bournemouth pressed forward but Diouf stepped up with the clock ticking down.

He was quickest to latch onto a Glenn Johnson cross from the right as he steered a diving header into the net from 10 yards.

Murray subsequently almost brought Bournemouth another equaliser, but Butland saved well and Stoke held on.
