Southend's Roots Hall Tuesday night hoodoo continued with a 1-0 defeat against AFC Wimbledon.
Dons' midfielder George Francomb bagged the only goal of the game on the hour mark, leaving the Shrimpers without a win in 10 league games and almost three years at Roots Hall on a Tuesday. The hosts were on top early on and Myles Weston wasted a fantastic chance when he shot wide of the right post after being sent clean through on goal. Shaquile Coulthirst then saw a 20-yard shot pushed over the crossbar from the edge of the penalty area before Wimbledon struck on the hour mark. Sean Rigg rolled a free-kick into the path of Francomb, who curled a fantastic 25-yard effort into the top right-hand corner of the net. Southend pushed forward after going behind with Lee Barnard having a close-range header tipped over by James Shea before Weston had an effort scrambled off the line by Barry Fuller.
