A late Craig Dawson own goal saw West Brom go down 3-2 in Tuesday's friendly away to League One outfit Port Vale.
Albion skipper Chris Brunt made his first start since groin surgery, as Alan Irvine fielded a 4-2-3-1 formation at Vale Park where new signing Jason Davidson was watching on.
Joleon Lescott (knee), Sebastien Pocognoli (groin and hip), Gareth McAuley (tight calf) and James Morrison (knee) were all absent due to injuries.
Kemar Roofe put the visitors into a fifth-minute lead with a cool finish after Craig Gardner's pass, but a close-range Ben Williamson effort brought Vale level soon afterwards.
On 27 minutes, Tom Pope's flicked header from a Michael O'Connor free-kick had the hosts in front, but Bradley Garmston levelled four minutes after the restart after a lay-off from Victor Anichebe
However, Albion were undone in the closing stages as Dawson misjudged a header and sent the ball past his own goalkeeper Myhill to settle the affair in Vale's favour.
Irvine's Baggies host Porto on Saturday in their final friendly before the big Premier League kick-off against Sunderland at The Hawthorns a week later.
