Port Vale ended a run of one point from four games with a comfortable 2-0 home victory against a disappointing Shrewsbury side.
Second-half goals from Louis Dodds and Michael O'Connor, who slotted home a penalty, proved the difference.
Ajay Leitch-Smith provided the first serious threat for Vale in the 11th minute when his sweetly-struck left-foot shot forced a flying save from Jayson Leutwiler.
Shrewsbury replaced Larnell Cole with James Collins at half-time in an attempt to pep up their attack.
But Vale held the upper hand and took a deserved lead when Dodds struck in the 52nd minute.
Colin Daniel played a neat pass after a surging run and the onrushing Dodds placed a low right-foot shot inside Leutwiler's left-hand post from 12 yards.
Carl Dickinson almost added a second for Vale when Leutwiler tipped his header over the bar.
And Vale finally clinched their win 10 minutes from time after Matt Tootle handled to concede a penalty.
O'Connor stepped up to bury the spot-kick with a powerful right-foot shot just inside Leutwiler's right-hand post.
