Moore fires Dons to victory
Saturday 14 January 2012 18:12, UK
Luke Moore came off the bench to net a superb 77th minute winner and give AFC Wimbledon a much-needed 2-1 victory at Port Vale.
Vale bossed much of the first-half as Sam Morsy threatened on two occasions before Marc Richards opened the scoring in the 31st minute. Sean Rigg's step over proved too much for his marker Fraser Franks and the winger's pinpoint cross from the left was met with an unstoppable header by Richards from six yards. Much of Wimbledon's first-half play was unsurprisingly disjointed, but they equalised out of the blue in the 41st minute. Sammy Moore whipped over a low cross from the right and Jack Midson forced the ball over the line at the near post despite the attention of two home defenders and Vale goalkeeper Chris Martin. Substitute Louis Dodds was inches away from putting the hosts back in front when he placed a shot against a post with his first touch in the 73rd minute But Wimbledon always carried a threat against a shaky home defence and it was Moore who fired the decider. Midson pulled the ball back into the path of substitute, who took a touch before driving a 16-yard left-foot shot high inside Martin's right-hand post.
