Scottish Premiership: Rangers edge Partick thanks to Joe Dodoo's double
Monday 28 November 2016 19:59, UK
Rangers snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, as Joe Dodoo came off the bench to score twice in a 2-1 victory over Partick Thistle at Firhill.
The win takes Rangers above Aberdeen, and into second place in the Scottish Premiership table, although plucky Partick will feel aggrieved at not collecting at least a point from the lunchtime kick-off.
After 75 minutes without a goal, Thistle took the lead thanks to the persistence of Kris Doohlan.
After collecting Sean Welsh's nodded pass, his own header deflected off James Tavernier before Doohlan responded quickly by smashing home the rebound from close range.
Thistle came extremely close to adding a second goal a few moments later, when a long-range Ryan Edwards volley beat Wes Foderingham only to glance off the top of the bar.

But 10 minutes from time, Dodoo volleyed home a clinical equaliser after latching on to Miller's chipped pass across the edge of the area.
With 90 minutes on the clock, Welsh's curling free-kick was easily caught by Foderingham before Dodoo struck again - deep into overtime - after collecting another Miller assist.
There was hardly time to re-start the game before referee Nick Walsh blew for full time.
The triumph gave Rangers a 15th victory over Thistle in their last 16 meetings, and left the hosts with no home win since early August.
During a goalless first half, both sides had their chances. Thistle's Chris Erskine missed a glorious opportunity in the eighth minute, while home keeper Thorsten Stuckmann reacted brilliantly to push away a powerful eight-yard header from Miller.
Visiting keeper Foderingham was also involved before the break, saving well from Doohlan, before Thistle defended in numbers to prevent Joe Garner from getting a clear shot on goal on 40.
The second half continued to yield chances for both sides. Erskine did well to create an opening for himself on 54, but his low shot from the edge of the box was comfortably dealt with by Foderingham.
At the other end Miller flashed well wide from 18 yards, while Harry Forrester broke clear on the hour only to have his shot blocked by Stuckmann's left knee.
Subsititute Dodoo also tested Partick's German keeper before Wallace missed a glorious opportunity from 12 yards.
However, the main action finally arrived during the closing quarter-of-an-hour. After Doohlan had given Thistle a scent of their first victory over the Glasgow giants in 23 years, Dodoo came to Rangers' rescue with an even later brace.
