Wimbledon managed to halt a long run of defeats against Oxford with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at the Kassam Stadium.
The U's had won all eight previous encounters against AFC, but there was little to choose between the sides in a game in which defences were on top. Both teams had been bidding for a third straight win. Dons created the clearer chances in the first half and Matt Tubbs went close with an angled sidefoot volley that Ryan Clarke turned around a post. Adebayo Azeez rifled a shot into the side netting, and only a brilliant saving challenge by U's skipper Jake Wright stopped Tubbs when he broke free. United's best opportunity came from Alfie Potter, who cut in from the left and hammered in a 20-yard shot straight at keeper James Shea. Danny Hylton went close for Oxford with a couple of powerful shots in the second half and at the other end Adebayo Akinfenwa smashed a half-volley wide. Oxford's 18-year-old striker James Roberts, who had scored three times in his first two games, hobbled off on the hour with a pulled hamstring.
