Roberto Martinez has vowed to bring the winning feeling back to Goodison Park after Everton ended a disappointing Premier League campaign with defeat.
The Toffees missed out on a top-half finish as Harry Kane’s solitary goal earned Tottenham a deserved 1-0 victory on Merseyside.
And Martinez insisted he would work tirelessly both on and off the pitch in the coming months to reward the club’s "special" fans with success next season.
“There is a lot of work to be done and we need to make sure we help the players we have at the club with three or four additions – the right additions,” he told Sky Sports.
“The margins are so small. What we need to do is realise that over the last 30 points, we’ve got 19, which is only two less than we had last season and that’s a good platform to go and build and work toward in the next campaign.
“The support we had at the end on our lap of appreciation shows how special we are as football club.
“It is not easy to support your team when you lose the game and you had a disappointing season.
“The support we have makes us a unique football club and I want to make sure we give everything we’ve got to bring that feeling of a winning team back next season.”
Everton endured a turbulent season both domestically and on the continent following their inclusion is the Europa League.
And, asked if the defeat to Spurs summed up Everton’s season, Martinez replied: “I wouldn’t say that. We were poor in the first half. The level we have shown in the last ten games, we were a little bit wasteful in possession, we allowed Spurs too much time.
“Overall, we created the best chance of the half and, in these sorts of games, you need to take opportunities. A good cross into the box and Harry Kane finishes, we could find the back of the net.
“In the second half it was a totally different display. We stopped them having control. We were on the front foot without creating clear-cut chances. I do feel it was a different display in the second half than the first half.
“We were carrying a threat that you felt maybe we could find that little bit of quality that would give us the goal that we needed.
“It was a different approach and I was pleased with the reaction, but overall, it was a game that showed how difficult this season has been we could get close to our best level today.”
