Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini believes Newcastle did everything they could to try and win their game with West Brom.
John Carver’s side ended their run of eight consecutive defeats but were unable to take all three points as they were held to a 1-1 draw by the Baggies.
Coloccini was pleased with the effort from his side and what he saw as a better attitude from his Newcastle team-mates.

“I think we tried everything to win this game,” the Argentine said. “We had the chances, we had possession of the ball and we created more than the games we’ve had before.
“We could not get the win but it is good because we showed a different spirit and we have to say thank you to the fans again. They have been with us and we are going to need them for these next two games.”
Asked whether he thought that the Magpies’ players had the character required to deal with the precarious situation that they find themselves in, Coloccini was adamant.
“Of course, we’ve got the character and we showed it today on the pitch,” he replied.
“Next year we cannot take the same risk, we need to show the character before, it was a mistake. But we are not here to look backwards; we need to look forwards to get points.
“It’s in our hands so we have to take the points, we don’t depend on the other teams. We have to win; we have to take the points.”
