Pablo Zabaleta admits Manchester City need to figure out why their performance dropped in the 4-2 defeat to Manchester United.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men made a bright start at Old Trafford and took the lead through Sergio Aguero before being steamrollered by the home side.
Defender Zabaleta said he could not explain what happened to City after Ashley Young had equalised and called on them to improve.
The Argentine told Sky Sports: “It was a disappointing afternoon for us.
“Sometimes it’s hard to understand why we can play really well for 20 minutes and when they equalised we were a different team.
“We didn’t have any reaction and the second half was also really poor.
“That team can play much better but the reality is we are not playng very well. We're far from our best.”
City have now lost five games out of 13 in 2015 as well as being knocked out of the FA Cup and Champions League.
And Zabaleta said their focus has to be on staying in the top four.
“There’s six games to go," he added. “We know it’s going to be hard to win the league and now we have to concentrate on the top four.
“Southampton, Liverpool they are also behind us. We need to analyse what we are doing wrong and try to improve looking forward.”
