Arsene Wenger refuses to admit Arsenal are in the title race

Arsene Wenger has refused to admit his Arsenal side can still win the title after picking up a narrow 1-0 win at Burnley in the Premier League.

Aaron Ramsey scored the only goal of the game in the 12th minute at Turf Moor on Saturday following a goalmouth scramble for an eighth straight Premier League victory.

The means Arsenal are four points behind leaders Chelsea, who have two games in hand, but must travel to the Emirates on April 26.

Wenger told Sky Sports: "At the moment, [Chelsea] are two games in hand, but we keep going and that is the most important thing that we keep that consistency.

“That's why the win was so important for us. It was a battling performance today, more than a fluent performance.

"Burnley were perfectly organised, to maintain organisation and pressing for 90 minutes, you have to congratulate the manager. I think they deserve to stay in the league."

Wenger once again praised Francis Coquelin for his performance, insisting the defensive midfielder’s patience with the club paid off.

“He has been absolutely consistent in the quality of his defensive work," said the Gunners boss. "He is good technically right and left footed. You need that.

“Yes, [he has surprised me] because he is a player who has been with us for seven years, he is 24 now and has just come out.

“So sometimes you have to be patient. He has shown great mental strength.”
