Stoke's Charlie Adam left Saturday Night Football pundits Jamie Redknapp and Glenn Hoddle in awe after scoring a 64-yarder from inside his own half against Chelsea.
The Potters had gone a goal down at Stamford Bridge when Eden Hazard converted a penalty, but they were level on the stroke of half-time when Adam produced a moment of pure brilliance to level the scores.
Spotting Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois off his line, Adam struck from almost 65 yards out with power and precision to find the back of the net; a strike Jamie Redknapp believes was better than David Beckham's in 1996.
The Goals on Sunday team later measured Adam's strike at 64.4 yards from goal but, speaking on Saturday Night Football, Redknapp said: "It's better than Beckham, and more audacious than Rooney's last season. He's 59 yards out. That is absolute genius.
"To kick it that far... I think there's something about left-footers, they can kick it further. It's not like he's got a run-up, it's almost under his foot. It's genius. It's a piece of top class skill, top marks."
Alongside Redknapp was former England manager Glenn Hoddle, who was equally stunned.
"He brings it back round [in the air], he knows how these balls work," Hoddle noted. "No-one in the stadium, apart from Charlie Adam, thinks there’s a goal on. But he’s got that in his locker."
There were some incredible goals in the Premier League on Saturday; Wayne Rooney and Bafetimbi Gomis to name just two. But not only does Adam's better those, it's a certain contender for goal of the season and one for the all-time list as well.
