Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster was named man of the match against Chelsea

Fraser Forster says his confidence is high after winning the man of the match award as Southampton drew 1-1 with Chelsea.

Forster led a defiant second-half rearguard display from Southampton, denying Cesc Fabregas, Eden Hazard, Oscar, Cesar Azpilicueta and Loic Remy with some smart saves.

The goalkeeper has had a brilliant season for Southampton, who have the best defensive record in the Premier League, conceding just 20 goals in 28 games.

Chelsea failed to capitalise on Manchester City's loss yesterday despite taking an early lead through Diego Costa.

Southampton's Saido Mane was brought down in the area by Nemanja Matic in the 19th minute, giving Dusan Tadic the opportunity to equalise from the spot, and Forster thinks his side could have taken a lead into half-time.

"We were fantastic in the first half and created a lot of chances and were unfortunate just to get the penalty really," he said.

"Second half we knew we would have to defend as you do at Stamford Bridge and we're absolutely delighted to come away with a point.
