Hull manager Steve Bruce admits the outcome of Saturday's visit of Queens Park Rangers is crucial to the Premier League survival hopes of both teams.
Both sides lie just above the relegation zone, Hull by a point and QPR courtesy of goal difference, and victory over a close rival at this stage of the season is priceless.
The R's arrive at the KC Stadium on the back of their first away league victory of the season at Sunderland, the Black Cats another team battling to avoid the drop.
"It's getting down to the nitty gritty now," said Bruce. "It's going to go down to the wire and we better get prepared because we're in it.
"We're four points off 12th and we're six points off the bottom of the table, let's hope at just the right time we can find that bit of form to see us through."
Opposing head coach Chris Ramsey worked with a trio of Hull players, defender Michael Dawson and midfielders Tom Huddlestone and Jake Livermore during their time at previous club Tottenham.
"They all speak very, very highly of Chris. He's well respected with a reputation as a very, very good coach," Bruce added.
"He has been given a great opportunity and I wish him well, after Saturday, I really do. I'm pleased a British, English coach has been given the opportunity.
"Over the last couple of weeks we've seen a little return to that with Tim Sherwood being given the Villa job and Chris getting the QPR number, so I sincerely hope it goes well."
