Mark Hughes praised Bojan Krkic after his match-winning strike guided Stoke to a 1-0 victory at Leicester.

The Spaniard’s 63rd-minute strike lifted the Potters, momentarily, into the top half of the table as it overcame Leicester who remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

And Hughes lauded his side for limiting their opponents to few chances, with Bojan being singled out for extra commendation.

A few crosses came across our box early in the first half but apart from that I don’t recall any chances they created in open play.

“I’m very satisfied on a number of levels, in terms of an away performance it was a very professional job that we did today we restricted Leicester to very few clear-cut chances,” he told Sky Sports.

“A few crosses came across our box early in the first half but apart from that I don’t recall any chances they created in open play. We dealt with their threat and answered the questions they asked of us.

“Our back four was rock solid. In front of them midfield snuffed out any of their creativity and our front four were always a problem going forward so, all-in-all, it was a very satisfying performance.

“Bojan is a very good player and if you get him in the right places on a football field he has the ability and the capacity to take chances

“He has affected every game that he taken part in. He scored a great goal – great finish – but you expect him to finish, we see it every day in training so you expect him to take those chances.”

With Stoke captain Ryan Shawcross picking up a groin injury ahead of kick-off and missing Saturday’s game, Hughes was pleased his side recovered from their 3-0 defeat at Arsenal by claiming a clean sheet.

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson was frustrated after defeat to Stoke.

“Clean sheets are food and drink to defenders. We lost Ryan to an injury early on Saturday morning and we left it as late as we could to see if he could pass a fitness test but it wasn’t to be,” Hughes added.

“Philipp (Wollschied) came in and faced a different game to the one he played at Arsenal last week, but he stood up to challenge and I was really impressed with his performance today along with the rest of the back four. So, all-in-all, there’s a lot to be pleased about.

“We were disappointed with what we produced at Arsenal last week. We lacked a little bit of belief in terms of what we were trying to do. There was certainly no evidence of that today, we knew exactly what we were trying to do and did it to the letter and I’m delighted with the performance both individually and collectively.”
